Réna Shémés, spouse of Habib Shémés. Her ladino first name 'Rena', says she is a descendant of an ancient Sephardic family in Egypt. Her head is covered by decency as well as by coquetry, with an Egyptian 'Mandil be-Oya', which is a fine colored silk kerchief, crocheted all around its border with a fine and colorful embroidery, tied like a crown over the head. Haret el-Yahoud, Cairo – 1901.
