Habib Shémés

Habib Shémés, a wealthy autochthonous Egyptian Jew from Haret el-Yahud at the end of the 19th century. Shémés family is renowned as living in Egypt from the beginning of the 1st century, if not before. Shémés is mentioned by Greek Alchemists in Alexandria in the 4th century, as a Jewish Prophet and the mythological founder of Alchemy in Egypt. (Bnei-Haye'or Bulletin - 2005). Cairo, 1901.
